Royal Flush

In order to understand what a royal flush is you must know what a flush is. A flush is a poker hand, which contains five consecutive cards in sequence. A Royal Flush is a hand where the ace is the highest card in the sequence and each card in the hand has the same suit. This hand is the best hand in the game and cannot be beat.

Straight Flush

The next best hand is the straight flush. This hand is much like the royal flush except for the fact that the hand does not have an ace as the highest card. Therefore, a straight flush is a poker hand which has five consecutive cards with all the same suit, but has a high card lower than an ace. When comparing two hands the hand with the highest card is superior.

Four of a Kind

Four of a Kind is a poker hand where there are four of the same rank(Number) and one card that is a different rank. When comparing two four of a kind hand the hand with the highest card quad wins. Although, it is possible for both players to get the same quads, then the card that is not matching acts as the kicker and the person with the higher kicker wins.

Full House

A full house is a hand, where there are three cards of the same number (rank) and two of another. For example three kings and two jacks. When comparing two full houses the hand that has the three matching cards is superior. If both hands have the same three matching cards then the hand with the highest two matching cards is better.

Flush

A flush is a hand that contains five cards of the same suit. The cards do no have a sequence. If two flushes are being compared then the hand with the highest card wins and if the highest card is the same then the hand with the second highest card wins.

Straight

A straight is a hand where each of the cards are in sequence but the suit of the cards are not the same. In this hand an ace is able to be played as a low card in a straight where fiive is the highest card. For example D5,S4,C3,S2,DA. When comparing two straights the highest card wins.

Three of a Kind

Three of a kind is when three cards in a hand have the same number(rank) and two other non matching cards. When comparing two of these hands the highest three matching card hand wins. If the three matching cards are the same then the the highest of the two non matching cards acts as the kicker and the hand with the highest kicker is superior.

Two Pair

Two pairs is a hand where there are two matching cards of one rank and two matching cards of another along with a card that does not match. When comparing two hands the hand with the highest pair is better.

One Pair

One pair is a hand where there are two matching cards and three non matching cards. When comparing two pairs the highest pair wins.

No Hand

No Hand is a hand where there are no hands as previously described in a hand. When comparing two of these hands the hand with the highest card wins.
